September Featured Artist: Nathalie Kalbach

We are so thrilled this morning to share the amazing Nathalie Kalbach as our Featured Artist for September! I will let Nathalie tell you a bit about herself, so grab yourself a cup of coffee this morning and come, and enjoy her amazing work as she takes you through the process of using Lindy’s Stamp Gang products!

I am a self-taught mixed media artist. I was born in Germany and lived most of my adult life in Hamburg before moving to the United States in September 2013. I now live in Jersey City, NJ.

My early love of paint was squelched by an art teacher who told me I had no talent. I worked as a paralegal for seventeen years and might have remained in the wrong profession had I not discovered mixed media painting in 2004.

I regained confidence in my creativity and have spent the last decade exploring the possibilities of creating dimension and texture by layering different materials and paint media. I have worked in art journals, on canvases and scrapbook layouts, incorporating collage and found objects. My projects have been published in several craft and hobby magazines as well as mixed media books. I have taught at many retail events and art retreats, as well as at trade shows, and by 2011 I was able to give up working as a paralegal to become a full-time artist.

I believe that everyone can be creative. Since 2006 I have taught workshops in Europe, Canada, the U.S., Australia, Israel, Malaysia and online. I share what I know about tools, supplies and techniques, with the goal of helping each student unlock his/her personal creativity.

My artwork is licensed through StencilGirl Products (stencils) and Stampendous (rubber stamp and template sets). My work has been featured on the packaging for Liquitex Acrylic Painting Sets sold at Michaels art and craft stores. I am also a product development consultant to several art and craft supply manufacturers.

I love the Lindy’ Stamp Gang Spray Inks, and I was really thrilled when I was invited for a guest post.
My favorite way to use Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray Inks is in conjunction with Liquitex Acrylic Paints. I just love how the two working together make the colors pop.

I was super excited to receive the Under The Boardwalk set– I love the colors!

I used some acrylic paint colors with some of my StencilGirl Products designs for a background.

Once dried I sprayed the different colors of the Under The Boardwalk Set over it and blended the colors using a paper towel.
For the finish I wrote some journaling and stenciled a bit more on top using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray Inks but also some acrylic paint.

One of my favorite features about Lindy’s Sprays is that they are permanent once dried and that you can actually spread some gesso or other paint media on top of the colored surface without deactivating the spray ink.

I also love to use my Stampendous Stamps and templates with acrylic paint and start layering those up on the surface.unnamed-1
For Be Contagious I used some of the templates in my stamp sets with acrylic paint and then sprayed with Pineapple Paradise and Mango Mania over it- I love how it makes the background pop.unnamed-1

In my Color Art Journal Spread I went a bit crazy- you can tell I love colors.

I alternated acrylic paints and Lindy’s Spray Inks with my Stampendous Stamps and Templates.

I love how I was able to use so many different colors and it didn’t turn muddy. For this spread I used the Industrial Chic Sprays and the Prairie Wildflower Paint set

Thank you Lindy’s Stamp Gang for inviting me and let me play with your gorgeous sprays inks.
