Hello Sunshine: Layout Technique Tutorial by Natalie May

Hello again!
Natalie May here sharing another super fun and bright project with you.

I love this page… this is one of my favourite techniques at the moment and it’s super easy to do. I have used the Flat Fabios Caribbean Collection again and love the punchy colour that it gives.
There are a couple of variables I have discovered though with this technique, and after teaching it here in Adelaide, we have worked out that the brand, and type of cardstock that you use plays a very big part. I am using American Crafts Cardstock for
this page,  and we have established that Smooth Bazzillworks great, but Bazzill White and Bazzill Avalanche are not so great! They take on the water much differently and the result is not quite the same, so please be aware of that if you decide to try this yourself.

Before you start, lightly draw in pencil the shape you want to create as your background. Then using a large brush, generously add water to a small area, and
then drip on some mist using the nozzle. The colour will spread out and ‘bloom’.
Add the next colour close to it and watch it spread, guide it with your brush if you need to and if there is too much water on the page then just soak it up with the edge of some paper
towell. By working in a small area at a time, you will get a much better
result..
Next step is to use the nozzle of the black to swipe on some colour, to create a border or shape. This will outline beautifully. Then I used the nozzle to flick on spme black splatters!

Such an easy technique and super fun to do!

I added some random stamps to finish off and coloured my Imaginarium
Designs Hand Drawn Hearts in black.

The gorgeous ‘Hello Sunshine” title is from A Piece Of Cake Designs designed exclusively by PolkaDot Creative, and is cut on my Cameo Machine. I coloured it using the same technique of lots of water, and then let the colour bloom and blend into the next colour. It’s finished off with some Dimensional Magic to give it a shine!

  1. Definitely one of my favorite Lindy’s layouts EVER. This is WONDERFUL Natalie. I just love the Lindy’s projects that look more like art. This is one of them. Thanks bunches for the tutorial but mosty thank you for the sunshine! j

  2. This is beautiful! I wonder if you coated your card stock with clear gesso if that would fix the problem if you don’t have that particular type of card stock?
