Altered Dressform Technique with Gypsum by Yulianna Efremova

Hi Gang! It’s Yulianna Efremova here with a step by step technique using gypsum and Lindy’s Starburst Sprays.

Today I’ll show you, how I made a 3D mannequin. I used Starburst Sprays French Lilac Violet Prima Donna Purple,  Yellow Rose of Texas,  Cathedral Pines Green, Flat fabio Toto’s Tornado Black (Blazing Black) to add the stunning color.

First I took a ready-made plywood model, then I used ordinary thin paper to make it dimensional by crushing the paper into balls and using a hot glue gun to attach it to the dressform.

I put threads around the paper it to make it more solid.

The skirt is made from cotton fabric and gypsum (plaster). It’s easy to work with gypsum but you have to work fast as it hardens quickly.

After it gets dry, add embellishments to make the dressform more textured –  I added cogs, flowers, clock parts and micro beads.

Once dry, it’s necessary to cover the dressform and embellishments with gesso, otherwise, sprays won’t work well on the surface.

After finishing all these preparations I added some Art Stones.13923606_1663314640659773_6410364031297491870_o

I decorated it further with sprays, magicals and paints.  I used Starbursts: French Lilac Violet Prima Donna Purple,  Yellow Rose of Texas,  Cathedral Pines Green and Flat Fabios: Toto’s Tornado Black (Blazing Black) to add the stunning color.

For the finishing touch I’ve added some gold Gilders Paste to highlight the texture and just a few more embellishments.

  1. Beautiful work. Love seeing new ideas for dress creation. I work a lot with material and pave…often muslin. Love the inspiration, thanks
