Stamping on Magicals and Shakers: Art journaling with Asia

Hi everyone:)

Today I have a new, exciting technique for you, just perfect if you like a distressed look on your creations!  This time I will be using Lindy’s Magicals, Magical Shakers and stamps, I love them all, so believe me, I had loads of fun!

I have learnt this technique not that long ago from the amazing artist – Jenn Engle. I love trying new things but I feel it’s very important to give a credit to the artist who taught me something new. And I know I will be using this particular technique quite often, as I looooove distress look on my project.
So let’s start:)

I will be working in my art journal with unprimed pages. To keep them from warping I always glue few pages together. The journal is yellowish in colour so I chose a few of the Magicals and  Magical Shakers which would go well with the colour of the page: (South Shore Sand, Blazing Black & Oom Pah Pah Pink)

The first step is to sprinkle delicately all the colours onto my page.

Then, spray a tiny bit of water onto the stamp and stamp it on the page, exactly where I have sprinkled the Magicals earlier.

I have used few different stamps and every time I stamped an image, I was added some water to the stamp. Just don’t overload it as  the water will drop on your page and the image will not be crisp enough. Of course with this technique there are no crisps images, the images are distressed, but what is cool is the fact that different colours are mixing together, meaning the stamped image is multicoloured and you can redo the stamping at any point. Why not, since you are trying to get the distressed look? This is what I’ve got and just have a look at this gorgeous, mixed colours.

I also did some embossing. This time I used an embossing pen and I traced with it the shapes in the stencil and embossed it with Caesar’s Gold embossing powder.

Next, after drying everything, add some washi tape and build up the layers.

On a piece of watercolour paper emboss an image of a butterfly with Black Forest Black embossing paper and then fussy-cut it.

At the end, adhere the butterfly to the page and added more embellishments, some black splatter with Blazing Black Magical and some doodling.

This is the beautiful finished distressed page 🙂

Hope you did enjoy this small tutorial and you’ll find this technique useful for your future creations 🙂
