Cat and Spring Canvas with Olga Ravenskaya

Hi gorgeous Lindy’s friends!

It’s Olga Ravenskaya here today with my new joyful canvas.

February is a month of love and firstly I wanted to create a canvas about love… But finally, it turned out about a kitten dreaming of the spring.

Today I’m showing you all how I created a background for my canvas.

Firstly I made a color combo that I associate with a spring.  I picked five main colors – Bonjour Butter and Pink Lady Pink Flat Fabios, Sea Mint Green and Steampunk Sepia Starbursts and Buccaneer Bay Blue Moon Shadow Mist, and made simple tags just to see how they would act with each other.

Exactly what I wanted! Such a color combo reminds me about first sun rays, clear transparent air and the earth beginning to wake up.

To start, I applied white texture paste using several different stencils.

Then I glued different materials to create an interesting texture – strips of corrugated cardboard, lace and chipboard pieces. Covered everything with two layers of white gesso and let it dry.

I began coloring from the top using Bonjour Butter, Pink Lady Pink Flat Fabios and Sea Mint Green Sprays. I used a brush applying sprays drop by drop to create color transitions.

Then I continued with Steampunk Sepia Starbursts and Buccaneer Bay Blue using the same technique. And also added rich blue color with Bachelor Button Blue Starburst.

I wanted to intensify the colors, so I dried the first layer and added the second one just spraying over it.

I also added the second layer of yellow and pink on the top of the canvas.

I mixed white texture paste with California Poppy, Oom Pah Pah Pink and Cathedral Pines Green shakers to get beautiful pastel mixtures.

And applied them partially here and there with a pallette knife.

To say honestly I didn’t use green mixture coz the shade didn’t match very well to the greens of the surface. It’s a sign for me to buy Lederhosen Laurel shaker, it has another shade of green with a slight blue shimmer!

To finish, I added green accents with my favorite Edelweiss Moss Green Starburst using a thin brush. Look – my bottle is almost empty!

I highlighted chippies, stencil patterns and stripes of the cardboard.

At the very end after gluing all the embellishments, I tinted flowers, leaves, art stones with Bonjour Butter, Pink Lady Pink Flat Fabios and Sea Mint Green Sprays to match them perfectly to the whole work.

Done!

And some close-ups as a little inspiration…
