Hello and Welcome! Martina here with you today.
I’d like to invite you to create a simple page with me! You don’t need many materials and not much time! I am creating a page in my big Art Journal but you could use a piece of cardstock, cardboard, canvas or anything else that you have handy.
The trick is: Before you start – cover your surface with a thin layer of (like in my case clear) Gesso. This will prime almost every surface you’re working on.
Then, when the Gesso is completely dry, I am starting with stamping in the background.
I am using a Cling Stamp and Archival Ink (Archival Ink because it allows me to use lots of water). I like to use stamps as they are. This gives softer images and less harsh lines which I usually try to void when I am building backgrounds.
Using the same Gesso I have been using to prime the page, I am sticking some die cut flowers to my background.
(Now it’s obvious why I have been using clear Gesso and not the white one. Clear Gesso allows the stamping underneath to stay visible.)
As soon as the Gesso is dry, I can start adding color to the page. I have been starting with painting on some Starburst Spray in Salt Water Taffy with a paintbrush.
And did the very same with Starburst Spray in Whale Watch Blue (I absolutely love this combination!)
You could totally use Magicals or Shakers or even Squirts for this! Just dilute the color with some water before applying it!
To blend everything together, I have been adding some splashes with Starburst Spray in Frozen Jack Frost.
I have been using the tube that is on the sprayer nozzle to create these splatters – this is just the easiest way for me to make them.
To add a little something extra, I have grabbed a permanent marker and added some little, random marks.
Using the same Archival Ink, I have stamped the Imagine to the page. I stamped multiple times without re-inking the stamp.
I really like these different levels of intensity of the images.
As a last step, I have added a sticker to the page.
I really like the simplicity of this page!
I hope you liked watching the process and feel inspired to create!
