Hi Gang!
Did you see the gorgeous color combo for July challenge?? Wow! it’s stunning, right? As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of Neon Graffiti Flat Magical Set… and I used that palette with a twist so I can get some shimmer on my projects. So I look at my color chart, you know me… I’m a freak of color charts, and I picked similar colors with shimmer on them: Bling-y Blonde, Witch’s Potion Purple and Prima Donna Purple; I also selected one black, a couple of grays, one extra purple and one extra yellow (they’re all listed at the end of the post) so I could have a wider color palette for my purpose.
Let’s get started!!! The color is amazing, but I was afraid of mixing them all on the page without any control and getting some weird grey-brownish shade… so I thought of something that could look cool and interesting. I have a stamp which is like a faceted background, and I used to create two different areas with embossing ink and Lindy’s Detail EP Boogie Down Black. Before melting the embossing powder, I remove some here and there to kind of having non-perfect lines in some areas. Lately, I’ve been using Lindy’s Magicals as watercolors, without sealing the paper with gesso, and I’m totally in love with this technique. So I colored each triangle of the stamped areas with all the different shades of purple, yellow and black-gray.
That took me quite a long time since I’m very meticulous… but I really enjoyed the process, it was a lot of fun! I needed to connect both areas somehow, so I decided to use the colors with a lot of water, creating this kind of faded wash. For this technique, you cannot rush, but you cannot stop either, you need to keep the paper wet while you add the color so you don’t get any marks or hard lines.
I wanted some embellishments to accompany the focal point of my page, so I stamped some circles on vellum paper and added several layers of embossing powder. I remembered a cool technique from my teammie Cindy, she added several layers of color and a final layer of clear embossing powder and got a really cool effect, really magical and dimensional (you can check that here). So I did that on my circles, some in black (Detail EP Boogie Down Black) and some in purple (EP Prima Donna Purple, Aurora Amethyst), and fussy cut them. I also stamped the same circles with black ink here and there and used a text stamp to add a little more interest.
Finally, I stuck all the elements with double-sided tape and glued some tiny rhinestones for an extra shimmer touch. I doodle some lines around the page, glues the sentiments and work done! See you soon, guys!
