Watercolor Bookmarks for New Year’s Resolutions by Ericka Strange

Hello gang! Ericka here and I just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year! Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? I am terrible at them, but this year I have several goals this year:

1. Try a “new to me” crafty technique every month, and

2. Read more books.

I tend to collect books like I collect craft supplies so this year its about using my stash. Today, I am creating a couple of watercolor bookmarks that will help me complete my goals.

Process:

1. Cut watercolor paper to the size you would like your bookmark and tape down the edges with washi tape.

2. Apply the Lindy’s shakers to the bookmark. I used Magical Shakers in the Tea & Crumpet setPinkies Up Pink, Pass the Jam Jane and Crumpet Crumbs. You can move the colors around with a paintbrush if you want full coverage on your bookmark.

3. After the bookmark has dried completely, use a floral silhouette stamp or paint floral silhouettes on your bookmark. I made two bookmarks and tried each technique. I painted some flowers with Waterlilies Lavender from the Monet All Day Shaker set and stamped the floral silhouettes with Versafine Clair Twilight ink.

4. You can stop here, but I wanted a little more of texture in my backgrounds so I added a background text stamp (Visible Image Textured Street stamp) in white ink.

5. I added a little shine to my bookmarks with the Lindy’s Blazing Sun spray which is part of the Glitz Spritz set. While the bookmark was still wet, I sprinkled a little of the Gimme Five Gold Embossing Powder on the wet background and quickly heat embossed it. This gives a light embossed texture to the background.

6. Remove the washi and punch a hole at the top to add twine and complete your bookmark.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope I’ve inspired you to create some bookmarks of your own.

Happy New Year,

Ericka

  1. I tape down the watercolor paper until it dries and that prevents buckling. The color doesn’t rub off unless it gets wet but if that is the case you can always use a distress glaze to seal the watercolor.
