Vintage Mixed Media Card with Preeti

Hi friends! Preeti Datta (Dutt Preety) on the Lindy’s blog today to show you step by step how to create a Vintage Mixed Media Card using simple background stencil techniques and Lindy’s Gang Sprays.

Creating grungy, vintage mixed media pieces is one of my favourite crafting styles. I will share some simple techniques on how to create this look with relatively few supplies. We will use a few archival inkpads, a few stencils and only 3 Lindy’s gorgeous sprays to achieve a beautiful vintage effect.

Basic Process

Start by cutting thick watercolor paper (300 gsm) to create the card panel.

Adhere vintage design washi tapes to the panel to start building the background.

Apply Clear Gesso on top of the entire panel to prime it for coloring.

Build the stenciled background by sponging on Archival Inks through multiple stencils. This creates background interest.

Add some more stenciling by sponging on blue archival ink through another stencil. The idea is to build layers of stenciled patterns using archival inks so that when sprays are used later on, these patterns do not fade or bleed.

To add texture, mix heavy white gesso with modeling paste (to create a stark white paste) & apply that through a dot design stencil using a palette knife.

Use a brush to add Lindy’s Gang gorgeous Sprays Gossamer Gold Vintage Spray, Cocoa Bean Copper Shimmer Spray and Tibetan Poppy Teal Shimmer Spray onto the panel, then spray with water to create some drips & also create ink splatter with the sprays, for a grungier look.

Do background stamping around the main composition using your favorite stamps and few archival inkpads.

Distress & darken the edges of the card panel, the paper doll, the paper mats and quote chip using a distresser tool and archival inks.

In the end, to finish the card, create the focal cluster with the paper doll, some gauze, thread, word stickers & a quote chip. Mat the panel (using foam tape for dimension) & adhere it onto a 5 by 7-inch card base.
