Mixed Media Fence Frame – Easter Edition by Priss BlaFu

Hello Crafty friends!!!

I’m Priss BlaFu (@artful.layers), and I’m happy to welcome you to a new creative adventure! Today, I’m excited to share a fun and festive project perfect for the Easter season. Get ready to immerse yourself in the world of mixed media as we create a stand that simulates a wooden fence, adorned with an adorable Easter bunny. Come with me as we explore how to make this decorative project a reality. Plus, stay tuned till the end of the post for an exclusive video tutorial, where I’ll guide you through each step of the process. Let’s unleash our creativity and put a touch of Easter magic in our homes!

For our first step, we will need 8 wooden popsicle sticks, which we’ll position vertically next to each other. We’ll secure them in place with two additional popsicle sticks placed as crossbars along the back, one on top and one on the bottom. Using a cutter, we will trim and sand the excess length of the crossbars, ensuring a clean finish. Here’s a little tip: try to leave a slight gap between the vertical sticks, rather than lining them up perfectly. This subtle detail adds a touch of authenticity to our artificial fence stand.

The following steps are easy. I’ve selected rice paper with an adorable Easter bunny design, perfectly fitting for our fence’s square format. We’ll glue it to our support using the decoupage technique, and once it’s completely dry (we can speed up this step with the help of a heat gun), we’ll carefully cut out the paper between the sticks.

Then, we’ll lightly distress all the edges with a nail file and finally, we’ll protect our paper with clear gesso to prevent damage when using the rest of the techniques.

First, we stamped here and there, a crack stamp (or any small details stamps) with brown permanent ink, making sure not to leave any harsh marks. But this is not all, we will also apply a stencil with the same ink (I chose a stencil with text). Just be careful to dry the ink very well between both steps.

In the next step, we will create a paste that matches the background color. To achieve this, we will mix crackle paste with Magicals. For the current Lindy’s Color Challenge, Alexandra’s Artist set is mandatory, and Jana’s Jade from this set is the ideal choice for my fence.

We will use a pattern stencil with leaves to apply paste to the edges of the frame. The stencil fits perfectly with the entire scene, and the design interacts with the surrounding elements to draw visual attention. The use of different layers of mixed media integrates the entire scene.

Finally, we’ll add a touch of magic and color using the spectacular Magical powders from the set that closely match the colors of our paper. In my case, I’ll be using Karin’s Coral and Martina’s Marigold from Alexandra’s Artists. We’ll employ the spraying technique that we’ve used in other projects. This technique involves spraying water, delicately sprinkling the Lindy’s over the outer areas of the frame (without staining the central bunny), and spraying a little more water to activate the magic. I adore using this spraying technique to create a soft, dreamy effect integration. It’s so much fun to watch the colors blend and flow together, especially into the cracks.

YEAH! We now have a lovely background that is integrated, cute, and magical. This background could be an excellent decoration for Easter, especially if there are kids around. However, we can enhance it further by adding 3D details such as a small frame and some flowers. I also have a charming bunny chipboard that we can use to add more whimsy to the scene.

The chipboards also need a special and Magical touch, so we’ll integrate them into the project by painting them with our beloved powders.

For the little frame, I first applied a very thin layer of white gesso, and in some areas, I put some crackle paste to add more texture. Then, using the same spraying technique, I applied Jana’s Jade and Martina’s Marigold a couple of times to intensify the color.

For the cute bunny, I used Chalk it Up embossing powder, which is white with black and gold sparkles that highlight the bunny.

I carefully composed my creation by incorporating the small frame, some threads, flowers, branches, and the white bunny. I arranged everything in the bottom right corner to complement the flow of the background. To integrate all the elements, I added white splatters. Using the crop, I made two holes and added silk ribbons for hanging my artwork. I’m in love with the result and I’m glad to invite you to watch the video tutorial to see the entire process.

Finally, I added white splatters because I love them and they help integrate all the elements together. Using the crop, I made two holes and added some Saris ribbons to serve as handles for hanging my little artwork. I’m absolutely in love with the result. Join me to see the entire process in the video tutorial!

What do you think? I absolutely love mixed media art. There’s something so freeing about being able to combine different materials and techniques to create something unique and beautiful. Mixed media art is truly a form of self-expression that allows me to let my creativity run wild.

I hope you enjoyed my project and feel inspired to delve into the world of mixed media art yourself. It’s a simple and enjoyable way to express your creativity and create stunning artwork.

Feel free to explore a wide range of materials, colors, techniques, and styles to unleash your creativity. The possibilities are truly endless! Additionally, if you’re looking for more inspiration with Alexandra’s Artist set, do check out this month’s Color Challenge and participate in it. It’s a fantastic opportunity to expand your creative horizons and connect with an awesome community of artists.
