Art Journal Page: Every Time and Season, with Heidi

Step by step tutorial on how to build an art journal page

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I’m on the Lindy’s Stamp Gang blog with a fun step by step art journal page with easy layering!

Step 1:

Today I’m working in my A4 sized art journal. To get my project started I stamped several images of a Power Poppy stamp set called Glistening Paperwhites onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface Paper. I stamped the largest image twice, as well as one of the smaller ones and another image four times.

I stamped (after using an anti-static powder tool) using Versafine Onyx Black Ink and after stamping I heat embossed using my Lindy’s Stamp Gang Clearly Clear Embossing Powder (this way the lines stay black and crisp) and then I fussy cut all the images leaving a small border.

Step 2:

Now that I have my images ready I’m deciding on my layout, pencilling in the quote that I want to use in graphite pencil.

Step 3:

Next, color the stamped images using a small brush and some gorgeous Lindy’s colors. I add the colors to my palette and paint with them like you would with watercolour paints, adding water to my project with a brush when I want to make the colours lighter.

I started with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in Pineapple Paradise, which is a medium yellow colour, then I added some Lindy’s Spray in Yellow Rose of Texas to deepen the shadow parts.

For the red berries, I choose Lindy’s Queen of Hearts Red and for my white berries Sea Grass Green.

And I finished with the colouring part using Cathedral Pines Green for the pine needles, and for the leaves, I choose a Lindy’s Squirt in Emerald Eh?!

When the colouring was is and dry I added some highlights using a white Gelly Roll Pen.

Step 4:

Now that my embellishments are ready I’m working on my background: I went over the quote using a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen

Then I stamped on the area around the quote using a Marianne Design text background stamp (you can use any text background stamp that you have) using Archival Ink in Coffee.

Next, I added a design on top of the stamped text using a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW854s) and VersaMark ink (which is a sticky clear ink) in combination with a foam applicator tool. Hold the stencil in place with one hand and apply the sticky ink over the stencil using the foam applicator tool. When still wet add the embossing powder of your choice (in my case Lindy’s Stamp Gang Embossing Powder in Candy Cane Red Gold) and heat emboss until the embossing powder is melted.

This procedure I repeated in several places.

Then add some splatters using a large brush and some leftover Pineapple Paradise yellow.

Step 5:

Now it’s time to put my art journal page together: I edged my page in some areas using Archival Ink in Leaf Green in combination with a foam applicator tool.

Then I adhered some matching green ribbon over the front of the page and adhering on the back using regular tape.

And to finish my project I only have to adhere the coloured flower images on top using one-millimetre thick foam tape.
